48th annual Hashim Khan Squash Tournament takes place at Denver Athletic Club

In the next five days, the world’s best squash players will gather in Denver.

From March 11-15, the famed Denver Athletic Club will play host to the 45th annual Hashim Khan Squash Tournament. Over many years, the Denver Athletic Club has become known internationally as one of the world’s premier squash facilities. Hashim Khan, widely considered the greatest player in the history of the sport, was the club’s original squash pro.

From 1951 to 1956, Khan won the British Open an unprecedented seven times. Inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2017, Khan will forever be synonymous with squash in Colorado. “Khan moved his family to Denver in 1973 and he became the head squash professional at the Denver Athletic Club. He continued to play competitively, but also began to coach and train new generations of squash players. Because of Khan, Denver became a mecca for squash. One of the longest-running professional squash tournaments in the world is played every year at the Denver Athletic Club.”
This year, the tournament is the only event in the world to feature both men and women from the professional ranks. Pro/Am and Amateur divisions will also be featured. In total, squash fans can witness more than 30 professional matches and 160 amateur matches. Professional matches will be streamed on SDA and YouTube.

In total the prize purse will pay out $45,000.

In both the men’s and women’s brackets, multiple top-10 players – including No. 2 women’s player Nour ElSherbini of Egypt – will be competing at the club on 14th and Champa. The tournament hosts a Pro/Am which allows members and local enthusiasts to play doubles alongside a professional, while the weekend schedule of Finals has becomes a signature event on the Denver sports calendar.
