There is no denying frustration has started to creep into the Denver Broncos locker room following an 0-3 start to the season. That frustration was apparent Thursday afternoon at Dove Valley.
Members of the local media were going about their usual business of talking to players and coaches when Broncos’ linebacker Von Miller took the podium.
Miller, who is usually accommodating and professional with the media, regardless of the Broncos performance, was clearly irked by the Broncos 0-3 record and his performance through the first three weeks of the season.
Miller took the podium and made a 12-second statement before walking off without answering any questions. The superstar has been stern and straightforward with the media before, but this is the first time in his professional career he has slighted the media in this way.
“I have great teammates, great coaches,” Miller said. “I am excited about the opportunity this week versus the Jaguars. We have a great game plan in. I am excited to play.”

It’s clear Miller is agitated not just with the team’s record, but with his overall performance and the questions that have come with it.
Since the start of the season, the All-Pro has been peppered with questions regarding the lack of production from the defense while dealing with rumors that the Broncos could trade him to another team.
Troy Renck of Denver7 reports that Miller’s teammates believe his actions are a “reflection of his laser focus this week.” Renck added that teammates believe “he’s not down, but determined.”
The Super Bowl 50 MVP has been virtually nonexistent on the field for the Broncos this season, registering just 10 tackles and no sacks. Miller’s lack of comments Thursday made it pretty clear he has nothing more to say regarding the slow start to the season.
Miller’s poor performance has led to questions regarding his health, age and desire to play football. The Broncos’ defense so far this season has been a far cry from the elite unit that propelled their team to a championship just a few seasons ago.
Remember, though, Miller has toyed with the media before. Last season around this time, he famously announced that the Broncos would “kick their ass” in reference to an upcoming matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. The Broncos delivered with a 45-10 win.
This time around Miller did not offer the kind of soundbite that could go viral. But his actions are certainly speaking louder than his words. The decision was calculated and sends a message about his state of mind. Miller’s display only adds fuel to the fire surrounding the team.
Miller is still one of the premier defensive players in the NFL despite his slow start. But after Thursday’s brief statement, all eyes will definitely be on No. 58. A game-changing performance from Miller and the entire defense will silence much of the noise the team has endured this week.
