Running back C.J. Anderson needs 142 rushing yards over the Broncos’ final two games in order to claim his first 1,000-yard season, and while that’s certainly on his mind, finishing strong — for himself and for his team — is more important.
In an interview with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 inside the Broncos’ locker room, Anderson elaborated upon his goals.
“To be honest, it’s to play hard, definitely hit some milestones that I’ve been having
on the wall since I joined the league, and I’m close… And then, when it happens, I’ve got to figure what to get for the fellas upfront for getting me to that milestone.”
Asked about finally having that milestone in reach, Anderson suggested that he’s had to adjust his expectations. “Well, I started off, I wanted to go for 1,500, and as the season goes on, you get closer towards a realistic goal, and I definitely want to be well over 1,000… I definitely want to be well over. So we’ll see how the cards lay, I think we’re doing some things to help the run game a lot more and I think we’re just running the ball a little better than we have been during the season.”
That improvement over the course of the season is proof that the Broncos are learning on the fly, something that Anderson says he’s always focused on. “I’m a cerebral guy and I take every day to try to learn something from somebody. I’ve even seen how Von [Miller] came back, and he came back in one of his best shapes ever. I’ll steal a little of his secrets. You steal what Aqib [Talib] does recovery-wise, to stay in 10 years and play at a high level and stay healthy. And even Allen Barbre, [in] his 10th year, picking his brain of how he’s stayed healthy and stayed on the field. So, no you never stop learning, if you think you know it all, that’s where you are wrong in this game.”
