The Colorado Rockies are floating just above the .500 mark after their series loss to the Chicago Cubs Sunday and considering how the team has fared early in the season in some major statistical categories, that mark may be more surprising than you expected.
Colorado is still winning games as their bats sit near the bottom in batting average (.223) and on-base percentage (.297) in the National League while the pitching staff has the third-worse ERA in the NL too.
But that isn’t going to keep superstars on the Rockies down including Nolan Arenado, who says that “it’s just a matter of time” before the team begins to break out.
In an interview with Eric Goodman of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 inside the Rockies clubhouse Monday, Arenado spoke about having spurts as a team that have shown how good the Rockies can be.
“We’ve shown spurts of being the team that we are and that’s got us some wins. Some big at-bats…I think our bullpen’s been really good. We’ve had some big hits. Big home runs,” Arenado said, who also noted that the team will have to be more consistent and that’s not a recipe for long term success in the majors. They simply have to have better at-bats.
“That’s not the way we’re going to be able to win throughout this whole year, we’ve got to find a way to have better at-bats and more production.”
When asked if there’s a little concern, Arenado wasn’t afraid to note that you’re always a little concerned when struggling.
“I think you’re always a little concerned, you never wanna struggle. At the end of the day you just got to go out there and compete, and just go battle the best you can.”
