In the first of two trade-deadline day deals, The Avalanche have acquired forward Artturi Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens.

Defensive prospect Justin Barron and a 2024 second-round pick are headed back to the Canadiens. Montreal will also retain 50 percent of Lehkonen’s contract, which expires this summer.

In 58 games this season, Lehkonen, 26, has 13 goals and 29 points. He is a pending restricted free agent.

During the Habs’ 2021 Stanley Cup Final run, Lehkonen scored the overtime game-winning goal in Game 6 of the semifinals series against the Vegas Golden Knights to clinch the Canadiens a spot in the final.

Colorado also has traded for Andrew Cogliano from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round draft pick, first reported by TSN’s Bob McKenzie. The 34-year-old has four goals and 15 points in 58 games. Cogliano was part of the 2020 Dallas Stars team that eliminated the Avs in the second round before falling in the Stanley Cup Final to Tampa Bay.
