Colorado wasn’t sitting on their laurels in Saturday’s game. Just because the Avalanche had clinched a playoff berth in the previous game, it wasn’t like Colorado was taking its foot off the gas. In fact, the Avs actually jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Ryan O’Reilly started his scoring onslaught.

O’Reilly registered a hat trick for the Blues, providing his team with some much-needed offense ahead of a final playoff push.

Avalanche vs. Blues Betting Pick

Although it was O’Reilly with the hat trick, Mike Hoffman actually scored the game-winner for St. Louis on Saturday. Hoffman has been really good for the Blues in games against Colorado this season with four goals and one assist in six total contests.

On the flip side, Colorado has not lost consecutive games without earning a point since Feb. 22-24, so expect the Avalanche to be back on top of their game in this one. There is also a chance that starting goalie, and Vezina Trophy candidate Phillip Grubauer is back in net tonight. He rejoined the team Saturday, but did not dress, after spending two weeks in COVID-19 protocol.

Avalanche vs. Blues Odds

Here are the lines for Avalanche vs. Blues at DraftKings Sportsbook:

Moneyline: Avalanche (-159); Blues(+138)
Over/Under: Over 6 (+100)/Under 6 (-121)

Bets We Like With an Avalanche Win

Nathan MacKinnon OVER 1.5 points (+122, FanDuel)

You may have seen us recommend this bet before. That’s because Nathan MacKinnon is a money-making machine. He ran his point streak to 13 games and has at least one point in 20-of-21 games. And in those 21 games, MacKinnon has a dozen multi-point games. You really can’t go wrong with this value.

Seriously, MacKinnon is such a good bet right now that you should probably feel confident with the heavy odds for him to just record at least one point in this game (-335, DraftKings).

Bets We Like With a Blues Win

Blues +1.5 AND UNDER 6.5 total goals (+155, DraftKings)

It’s been an uneven season for the Blues on the whole, but they do play the Avalanche tough and are starting to look like the team that won the Stanley Cup two years ago and was a threat to repeat last season.

In its last three games against Colorado, St. Louis has two one-goal losses and a win. Each would have covered that 1.5 point spread.

However, you can add value to that line if you push the over/under up a half puck and parlay the two bets together. This is an especially good play if Grubauer is back in net for Colorado.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Gabriel Landeskog OVER 1 point (+140, FanDuel)

Lost in the wake of MacKinnon’s  hot streak is the that Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog is also putting up plenty of points lately.

Landeskog has registered at least one point in 16 of 20 games and has had seven multi-point games in that span. He is a point-per-game player for the season, so all he has to do is match that and your worst outcome is a push. Get the second point, and you have great value on this bet.

Avalanche vs. Blues Prediction

It’s becoming tough to choose these games, especially with the teams playing each other so many times in such a short period. It’s almost like it’s a playoff series. We had the Blues winning two games ago, and the Avalanche nipped them by a goal. We had Colorado winning Saturday, and the Blues won a tight one with an empty netter added on late.

The Blues really need this win, not just for playoff positioning but also to prove to themselves that they can play with Colorado in a potential postseason matchup.

Meanwhile, Colorado is still pursuing the No. 1 overall seed, home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. This team also doesn’t lose two in a row all that often (just once this season in which they didn’t register a point in either game), so this one has extra time written all over it for us.

Pick: Blues 3, Avalanche 2
