The streak is over for the Colorado Avalanche. They suffered their first regulation loss in a month on Wednesday night, falling 8-3 to Minnesota, snapping a 15-game point streak. They will look to get right back to their winning ways tonight as they travel to Anaheim and they will be led by star Nathan MacKinnon who has a goal in four straight games and points in seven straight.

Let’s take a look at this contest, the seventh of eight meetings between the teams this season, from a betting perspective in our Avalanche vs. Ducks betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

The Ducks are playing out the string and awaiting the NHL lottery to see if they can land in the top spot. They won their last game on Tuesday, 5-1, over San Jose, but that snapped a three-game losing skid. Still, the Ducks are cellar dwellers in the West Division with the third-worst record in the NHL.

Avalanche vs. Ducks Betting Pick

You can’t find two teams on more opposite ends of the hockey spectrum right now. The Avalanche have the second best record in the NHL, while the Ducks the third-worst. The Avalanche have outscored their opponents by a league-best 45 goals. The Ducks have been outscored by 39 goals, fourth worst in the NHL. It’s almost an unfair matchup.

Somehow though, the Ducks have beaten the Avalanche twice this season (2-2-2). They have not beaten any opponent three times. The Ducks are also not a very good home team. They’ve won just five of their 21 home games this season an have dropped six of the last seven at Honda Center.

Bets We Like With a Avalanche Win

OVER 5.5 total goals (-128, FanDuel)

The over/under at six doesn’t look as appealing on DraftKings, but when you look at FanDuel and see that you can get over 5.5 and not have to lay a lot of wood, you take it.

The Avalanche score a lot of goals. They have averaged 4.7 goals by themselves over their last 14 games. If they hit their average, the Ducks only need one goal to beat the number at FanDuel. They can do that, right?

We think so.

Bets We Like With a Ducks Win

Adam Henrique OVER 0.5 points (+158, FanDuel)

The Ducks winning this game is a longshot. But, if they’re going to do so, they might lean on a veteran like Henrique to lead the way.

Henrique has been cold lately with only two goals and no assists over his last eight games, but he has been the best Duck the season against Colorado. Henrique has three goals and five assists for eight points in seven games against the Avalanche.

We don’t see a Ducks win in the crystal ball, but if they pull off the upset, getting this kind of value on a player averaging more than a point per game against Colorado really makes sense.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Avalanche OVER 1.5 Goals in the second period (+148, DraftKings)

This may seem like an odd bet, and even odder still to make before the game even begins. But, that’s where the value is.

Colorado has registered 52 goals in the second period this season, second-most in the NHL behind only Washington. The Ducks are just a middle of the road team when it comes to goals allowed in the second period, ranking 16th in the NHL, so they don’t impact this one way or the other.

We can see this game being a little sluggish to start, but once Colorado realizes it needs to put the pedal to the metal in the second period, the Avs will get the requisite two goals to make this prop bet a winner.

Avalanche vs. Ducks Prediction

There’s not much to analyze in this one. We have a really good team coming off a loss against a really bad team coming off of a win.

It’s recipe for an easy victory for the better team. If you want to get exotic, maybe you look for some value with Colorado to win by more than 1.5 goals and parlay it with the OVER to get +210 odds at DraftKings, but the reality is, this game shouldn’t be and won’t be close.

Avalanche vs. Ducks Pick: Avalanche 5, Ducks 2
