The Colorado Avalanche head out to the Staples Center for their first road game of the regular season to take on the Los Angeles Kings.

Let’s take a look at this Western Division showdown from a betting perspective in our Avalanche vs. Kings betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

Avalanche vs. Kings Betting Preview

The Colorado Avalanche head west after splitting the first two games of the season at home against St. Louis. The Blues won the season opener last Wednesday 4-1 before the Avalanche stormed back and shutout St. Louis in an 8-0 drubbing Friday night.

Colorado’s power-play unit scored five goals in the victory, after head coach Jared Bednar called out that unit’s poor 1-for-4 performance on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Kings look for their first win of the year after suffering back-to-back overtime losses against the Minnesota Wild. The Kings blew consecutive 3-1 leads in the third period, with the Friday contest ending up tied with less than two seconds left in regulation thanks to a Ryan Suter shot from the blue-line trickling past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick.

Avalanche vs. Kings Odds

Here are the lines for Avalanche vs. Kings at DraftKings Colorado:

Bets We Like With an Avalanche Win

Avalanche to Score First & Win the Game (-103, DraftKings)

This Colorado team is loaded with offensive firepower, and it was on full display in their last game when it scored eight goals against St. Louis, including five on the power-play in eight chances. Avalanche forwards Gabriel Landeskog and Andre Burakovsky each have two goals thus far and star Nathan MacKinnon has a goal and two assists.

The Avs are a total mismatch for this Kings squad, which is why the regular moneyline price is at 2/1. Look for Colorado to get on the board first and win this contest fairly easily.

Bets We Like With a Kings Win

Dustin Brown OVER 2.5 Shots on Goal (+100 DraftKings)

The Kings’ veteran center is still a big piece of this team’s offense, especially on the power-play unit, and for Los Angeles to win this game, they will need the 36-year-old to step up and score like he did on opening night against the Minnesota Wild. In 55 career outings versus Colorado, Brown has scored 16 goals and added 21 assists on the score sheet. Look for him to get some looks to fire the puck, especially when L.A. has the man-advantage.

Bets We Like Independent of the Outcome

OVER 6 Goals for Full Game (-115 FanDuel Sportsbook)

These two clubs are going in opposite directions. Colorado is a legitimate Stanley Cup contender and with their youth, speed, and skill. The Avs will be a tough team to beat every night the take the ice.

As for the Kings, they have issues on defense and trouble holding on to leads, but they also have a formidable offensive attack that should be able to generate some scoring chances in this game. I expect this to turn into a track meet, despite the recent history between these clubs. Five of the seven games have stayed under the total.

This Colorado team is on another level offensively, and we should see the “over” cash with more than six total goals.

Avalanche vs. Kings Prediction

With a strong offense and good goaltending, along with the momentum of hitting the road off a big blowout victory, look for Colorado to continue its winning ways in this one with a 6-3 victory in Hollywood.
