The Rams are 3-3 at the midway point in 2023.

And considering their tough, 0-2 start to the season against then-ranked Washington and CU, getting back to .500 at this point seems like a win. However, Jay Norvell’s team has a tough streak coming up against UNLV (5-1), No. 22 Air Force (6-0), and Wyoming (5-2) but the Rams do have a chance at earning a bowl trip this year.

Colorado State has been able to pull out some wins—including the incredible, fourth-quarter comeback against Boise State—thanks in part to stars Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and Mohamed Kamara.

Those two are now earning national recognition with their play.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi wins four awards for Week 7

Fowler-Nicolosi has been fantastic in four-of-five games this year. And Week 7 was no different for the redshirt freshman quarterback.

The Rams offense was stuck in a rut in the first half, with a mere 46 total yards against Boise State. But they finally woke up in the second half, and especially with 6:12 to go. In that final 6:12, Fowler-Nicolosi led his teammates downfield for three touchdowns to erase a 20-point deficit and win 31-30.

During that fourth quarter, Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi threw for 204 yards and those three scores. On the day, he went 32-54 for 359 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT.

The performance was so notable, he won Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the second time in the month of October. The first came in his career game against Utah Tech.

Nation’s sack-leader Mohamed Kamara lands on Midseason All-America list

Mohamed Kamara has been an absolute terror for opposing quarterbacks all season long.

In fact, he’s been the best pass rusher the Colorado State Rams have had since Shaquil Barrett a decade ago, and he may go down as the best edge in Rams history.

Currently, Kamara leads the nation in total sacks with 9.5 on the year, despite tallying zero last week in the win over Boise State. Jonah Elliss of Utah (9.0) is second. Also of note, Kamara is fifth in tackles for a loss with 11.5, and Edgerrin Cooper of Texas A&M leads with 13.5 TFLs.

He’s been so explosive and dominant that CBS named Kamara to their Midseason All-America team.

Also of note, College Football Network also lists Kamara as a Midseason All-American.

Brady Smith’s 16 sacks in 1995 is the all-time, single-season record at CSU, and Kamara is in striking distance of that mark as well as TFLs in a year (23.0, Mike Bell 1978).

Next up for Kamara, Fowler-Nicolosi and the Rams is a tough test against the surprising UNLV Rebels. 3-3 Colorado State faces UNLV (5-1) in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 21 with a 5 p.m. MT kickoff. Stream the game on The Mountain West Network.
