Baron Browning’s stunning draft day drop led to some concern that maybe his character might have been a factor in his slide, though his post-draft press conference quickly made any such worry seem farcical.
Browning came across as incredibly humble, and a player willing to help the team however he can.
“I think I’m more comfortable outside, but at the end of the day, I’ll play wherever they need me to play. I’ll play kicker,” Browning said while chuckling after being asked where he preferred to play. He later added, “I’m waiting to hear [where they want me to play], but like I said, it doesn’t matter—whatever the team needs me to do.”
You also got a glimpse into his work ethic when he described how he worked to improve his pass coverage ahead of the 2020 season.
“I was able to work with one of our [graduate assistants] before heading into the 2020 season on a technique he learned—an off-man catch technique,” Browning said. “I think I’ve grown a lot in my pass coverage. I’m going to continue to grow in it. I’m trying to develop all my skillset, so I’m just looking forward to continuing to be able to improve”
Browning was, of course, surprised by his own drop in the draft, but it only seems to have given him an added chip on his shoulder.
“I thought I would be going higher,” Browning said. “At the end of the day, I’m just thankful for the opportunity. I’m definitely going to have a chip on my shoulder. I’m willing to do whatever the team needs me to do. I’m just ready to play some football to be honest with you.”
Browning and rest of the Broncos’ rookies will report to camp on May 14th.
