The second installment of eight meetings this season between the St. Louis Blues and the Colorado Avalanche takes place this evening at Ball Arena in Denver.

Let’s take a look at everything you to know about how to wager on this game with our Blues vs. Avalanche betting preview that includes odds, picks and predictions.

Blues vs. Avalanche Betting Preview

The St. Louis Blues picked up a solid 4-1 victory over Colorado in Wednesday’s regular season opener. The Avalanche opened the night with a power play tally from Andre Burakovsky early in the first period, and despite outshooting the Blues 15-6 in the second frame, Colorado found themselves in a 2-1 deficit after 40 minutes of play, thanks to goals from Oscar Sundquist & Jordan Kyrou as a result of poor positioning from turnovers.

Newly acquired Blues winger Kyle Clifford sealed the contest with a goal midway through the third period. One key absence in tonight’s lineup for St. Louis will be forward Sammy Blais, who will miss the next two games for the Blues due to suspension from the league after an illegal check to the head of Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews in the first period of Wednesday’s game.

Toews did eventually return to the game, and Colorado scored on the ensuing power play that resulted from the two-minute penalty assessed. That play won’t be lost on this Avalanche lineup, which could result in some scrappy play tonight between these long-standing division rivals.

Blues vs. Avalanche Betting Odds

Here are the lines for Blues vs. Avalanche at PointsBet Colorado:

Bets We Like With a Blues Win

Blues to Score First Goal (+140, BetMGM)

In order for St. Louis to pick up a second straight victory in Colorado, they will have to get momentum on their side early in this contest by scoring first. On Wednesday, they were able to score a pair of goals in the second period after trailing 1-0 thanks to the aforementioned Sammy Blais penalty and subsequent power play goal on the, but this Blues club does much better when getting on the board first.

Last season, St. Louis was 29-2-8 when scoring first, including a 12-1-3 mark on the road.

Bets We Like With an Avalanche Win

Nathan MacKinnon to Score A Goal Anytime (+120 PointsBet)

The reports from Colorado’s locker room after Wednesday’s loss suggested that the Avs didn’t make enough adjustments and somewhat took the Blues lightly, especially after getting the lead early in the contest.

Head Coach Jared Bednar wasn’t happy with the team’s power play execution, with the unit scoring only once in four chances during the contest. Their best player, Nathan MacKinnon is going to have to find the back of the net tonight for Colorado to earn a victory here tonight. In 30 career games against St. Louis, the 25-year old Halifax native has scored 11 goals and added 15 assists.

With many experts predicting he could finish the season in the Top 10 for goals and points scored, tonight seems like a good night for MacKinnon to make the score sheet for the first time this season.

Bets We Like Independent of the Outcome

First Period (OVER 1.5 Goals -135 at BetMGM)

There won’t be much love lost between these two clubs, especially with some of the aggressive play we saw at times two nights ago, headlined by the Sammy Blais hit on Devon Toews.

I expect to see some skirmishes between the whistles, which usually leads to penalties being called, and good chances to score once teams are on the attack.

With that being said, take a look at the first period over total of 1.5 goals.

Blues vs. Avalanche Prediction

I feel we see a more inspired effort from the home team tonight, and I like Colorado to pick up a 4-3 victory to even up this season series.
