While many of the Denver Broncos’ veterans were off for the day for rest, the competition level was still high as opportunities for players farther down the depth chart became more accessible in day 12 of training camp at the UC Health Training Center.
- Veterans’ day off
Several veterans had the day off, including Chris Harris Jr., Von Miller, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Derek Wolfe. Practice is important… rest and health is even more so. Ensuring the veterans get their days off and stay healthy for the Broncos’ offense and defense should remain a high priority for Denver.
- Versatility
A potential dual-threat could be in the works for Denver with running backs. Multiple Broncos running backs were utilized in the receiving game and were effective, including a long reception off a quick slant by Devontae Booker.
With the style of running backs changing in the NFL, Denver may have themselves some versatile weapons in Phillip Lindsay and De’Angelo Henderson as well, who all moved around a lot at practice.
- Humble pie
While wide receiver Courtland Sutton has dazzled in camp this year, the rookie got a slice of humble pie on Wednesday. Sutton had a couple passes go through his hands — some more difficult to catch than others — at practice.
Maybe today is a coming back to earth day for Sutton. He’s dropped two passes in the time I’ve watched practice.
One miss 6/10 difficulty. Another was right through his hands. #Broncos

It’ll be important for Sutton to back up his strong training camp with preseason production. While he’s looking like a stud in practice, it must translate to game action.
- Big air in the thin air
The Broncos have had a constant All-Pro in practice all training camp long: punter Marquette King. King may quickly become one of the best the Broncos have ever had at the punter position.
King’s ability to flip the field position — with hang time, to boot — is an absolutely lethal weapon for the Broncos. King’s uncanny ability to pin coffin-corner kicks with tremendous precision has big-time value when the regular season plays out.
Brandon McManus was also out in practice booming 60+ yard field goals into the crowd with ease. Denver fans shouldn’t worry when it comes to special teams, a unit that could excel in 2018 with an improved return game as well.
Not that it was going to be anything you were going to worry about, but McManus out here dropping money-shot 55-60+ yarders. #Broncos
