Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix called Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens ‘miserable’ but also dove deeper on what he and the team need to do to get the sour taste out of their mouths with an AFC West showdown approaching with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix reflects on loss to Baltimore Ravens
Bo Nix has grown so much as the Broncos starting quarterback since Week 1. We’ve seen him get more comfortable as time has passed, and we’ve seen him minimize making bad decisions. All that said, he’s still a work in progress and has plenty of room to grow, but Bo was the least of the Broncos’ issues in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Nix finished the game 19-of-33 passing for 223 yards, no touchdown passes, one interception on the first drive on a pass attempt that was tipped to a defender, and a receiving touchdown courtesy of Courtland Sutton. Denver was aggressive in Sunday’s game, going for it a handful of times on fourth down and three times in the first half. Nix overshot Troy Franklin on what would have been a wide-open touchdown, which was one of the several misses he had on the day.
That’s the developing road of a rookie quarterback — it will contain ups, downs, twists, and turns, but the important element is that we are seeing continued growth with him.
Sunday’s blowout loss was the first game this season Denver has lost by more than one score.
“This is miserable; it’s no fun,” Nix said. “You never want to lose games like this. You never want to lose, period, but obviously, it’s inevitable sometimes. But you don’t want to lose like this, so it is miserable, and we do have to face it. You either sit there and point fingers at someone, someone else, or you sit there and take ownership of it. The only way to get over it and not be in the situation anymore and to continue to find ways to improve is to look internally. That’s what we’re going to do, starting with ourselves and starting with me. There are a few different things you can do, but it’s just a more important, more valuable, decision to say, ‘I, as an individual, have to get better,’ and it starts with each person, and then eventually, you start changing games like this.”
While it wasn’t perfect offensively, Nix was a bright spot in Sunday’s game alongside Sutton, who finished the game with seven catches for 122 yards and a passing touchdown to Nix.
With the NFL Trade Deadline approaching tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. MT, Sunday’s game showcased how important it is that Denver adds another playmaker opposite of Sutton for Nix because the Broncos’ offense has become one-dimensional when the run game isn’t there or if they’re trailing early.
Will the Broncos make a move to get Nix another weapon? We’ll be monitoring the buyers and sellers for the next 24 hours.
