The Denver Broncos have waived former 2013 fifth-round out of Western Kentucky Quanterus Smith. Last season Smith played 15 games behind DeMarcus Ware at defensive end recording 11 tackles and 0 sacks. Smith showed flashes of great pass-rush ability but he was unable to gain true traction.
Smith made a negative grade in every game he appeared in according to Profootballfocus except for one game at New England where Quanterus Smith showed great strong run defense.
Smith was not in uniform for the Broncos divisional playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He was placed on the IR with a knee injury the Friday before the game. Shaquil Barrett, who was a star football player at Colorado State University, took Smith’s spot on the roster during the postseason. Barrett looks to have the inside track on backing up Ware this season. Also, look for the Broncos to add defensive end depth in this week’s NFL draft.
The Denver Broncos begin veteran minicamp practice Tuesday at Dove Valley.
