A horse neighs after it hears a panther’s growl, and that’s exactly what happened in Super Bowl 50. The Denver Broncos – particularly the defense – saved their excited chatter for after they had successfully lifted high the Lombardi Trophy.
David Hurlbut of The Morning Huddle AM 1340, observed that leading up to the game the Broncos remained focused and quiet. Then during the game he did not see, “any defensive Broncos dabbing or ‘Supermaning’… they just let their play do the talking.”
And boy did their play make a some noise.
Although the Broncos kept silent on the field, that soon changed once they were named Super Bowl champions. Hurlbut shared some of the big ones…
“Aqib Talib on Cam Newton‘s alter ego: ‘There ain’t no Easter bunny. There ain’t no Santa Claus. There ain’t no Superman.'”
“Chris Harris on the Panthers previous opponents: ‘He just hasn’t faced nobody. We looked at their schedule. They played the AFC South… they haven’t played nobody man. You look at their schedule and we’re the first dogs they’ve played.'”
Hurlbut agreed with Harris Jr. saying, “We knew [the Broncos] were battle tested.”
Hurlbut shared a big one by TJ Ward: “We don’t have to say nothing. We let them do all the talking. We let our pads talk, we talked with our helmets and our shoulder pads. They could do all the media talking – you know what I’m talking about. We’re not about that flashy stuff. We’re about the grind [and] putting in the work… They want to be famous; we want to be champions. We want to play football.'”
Other things said about Cam Newton, specifically, by several players…
Danny Trevathan: “That’s the way he is. He’s playing for himself.”
Talib: “He didn’t want it.”
Harris: “Did you guys see him dance today? You saw us dance.”
Definitely some heavy stuff coming out of the Broncos defensive players. But the players weren’t the only ones putting stuff out there. Defensive coordinator, Wade Philips had something to say.
He tweeted, “A little dab [will] do you, but too much dab will undo you.”
Hurlbut spoke for all of us including the Broncos players when he said, “I had heard and seen enough.” He was talking of course, about all the things coming from the Panthers leading up to the Super Bowl. The Panthers had a lot to say before, but it was the Broncos who were talking afterwards.
Listen to Hurlbut’s entire discussion about how the Broncos saved the chatter until after the game in the podcast below…
