With their only pick of the sixth round — which they acquired in their trade-up with the Atlanta Falcons for Javonte Williams — the Denver Broncos selected Auburn wide receiver Seth Williams, as George Paton continues to stack up hits.

Williams is a receiver of the same vein as Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick in the sense that he’s at his best down in the red zone and when he’s able to go up and over opponents. the major concern with Williams is that his lack of polished route running and top-end speed limits his ability to separate and that he also is incredibly inconsistent.

However, the flashes when he puts it all together are downright special.

In year one, Williams will provide insurance in case there are unforeseen complications with Sutton’s return to the field, but after that, the Broncos will be hoping that Williams can take over from Patrick — who is set to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2021 season.

The selection also might not bode well for 2018 fourth-round selection DaeSean Hamilton, who already was going to have to fight for a roster spot and has been mentioned in recent trade talks. Hamilton had an uphill battle ahead of him to make the roster with Sutton, Patrick, Jerry Jeudy, K.J. Hamler, Tyrie Cleveland, Diontae Spencer and now, Williams, all on the roster.
