The Denver Broncos have solidified the future of the defense and it involves terrorizing quarterbacks. First round draft pick Bradley Chubb signed a four-year contract with a team option for the fifth season on Thursday.
According to Broncos insider Mike Klis, the deal is fully guaranteed and worth $27.27 million. The contract included a $17.194 million signing bonus, which combined with his $480,000 rookie salary will pay the No. 5 overall pick $18.394 million this season. As Klis notes, only Von Miller will make more this season at $19 million.
In four seasons at North Carolina State University, Chubb recorded 198 total tackles, 54.5 of them were for a loss. With ten sacks in both his junior and senior seasons, Chubb ranked in the top 10 nationally both years.
Pro Football Focus reviewed Chubb’s senior season and gave him an overall grade of 89.4. He also finished with the highest graded run-defense grade at 89.7 and led ACC edge rushers in both combined pressures and defensive stops.
After declining to pick up Shane Ray’s fifth-year option, it seems that the Broncos are betting on a trio of Chubb, Shaquil Barrett and Von Miller to lead the defensive front seven moving forward.
