Justin Herbert’s Rise
Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert is a rising star in the NFL and he needs to be at the top of the scouting report for the Broncos. Over the last three weeks, Herbert has 10 touchdowns and just one interception. He’s also thrown for 300 or more yards in three of his five career games.
Although he’s mainly a pocket passer, the rookie also has two rushing touchdowns on the season. Herbert is quickly becoming the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
However, his rise has only translated to one win so far. The bad news for the Broncos is that win was last week as Herbert and the Chargers dominated Gardner Minshew and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
What’s Up With Drew Lock?
Coming into the 2020 season, many expected Drew Lock to take a significant step forward in his development. Unfortunately, that hasn’t come to fruition yet. An injury that knocked him out for a few weeks definitely didn’t help, but Lock has not looked good this year.
He hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass since Week 1 and he threw for two interceptions in each of his last two games. In his nine career games, Lock has only thrown for multiple touchdowns twice and they were his first two games as a starter.
On the bright side for Broncos bettors, one of those games came against the Chargers. Lock led the Broncos to a 23-20 win in Week 13 last season. While he did throw for two touchdowns, he only put up 134 yards through the air.
It’s put up or shut up time for Lock. Another game with two picks and no touchdowns just won’t cut it.
Broncos Are Bad At Home
The Broncos are trying to break a three-game losing streak at home this year. Their two wins on the season have come on the road. The Chargers, on the other hand, are 1-2 on the road.
The weather is supposed to be nice at Mile High Stadium with highs of 57 degrees and clear skies. This is going to be a reversal of Week 7 when there was snow on the ground for Broncos vs. Chiefs.
Still, that bad weather didn’t stop the Chiefs from scoring 43 points en route to a huge cover of the over. The better weather is good news for bettors who are backing the over, but if Lock and the Broncos offense can’t put the ball in the endzone, the weather won’t make much of a difference.
