Following the Colorado Eagles two-game sweep of the Tucson Roadrunners last weekend, they traveled to San Diego for the first time this season for a two-game weekend series against the Gulls. Things did not quite go the way they wanted, as the Eagles were swept by the Gulls in two thrilling back-and-forth games.
Nov. 9 – Eagles fall 4-3 to the Gulls
After being able to tally the first goal of the game late in the first period from defenseman Mason Geertsen, the Eagles ended up falling short. The Gulls opened up the second period firing on all cylinders, scoring two goals in the first ten minutes to grab the 2-1 lead. Despite losing the lead, the Eagles refused to give up, as forward Josh Dickinson tallied a late shorthanded goal sending the game into the third period tied 2-2.
Opening up the third period, Gulls forward — formerly of the Denver Pioneers — Troy Terry continued his hot start to the season, scoring his fourth goal of the year.
Although Eagles forward Michael Joly was able to score the equalizing goal, the Gulls came away with the 4-3 victory due to a late score from San Diego forward Chase De Leo.
Nov. 10 – Troy Terry lifts the Gulls over the Eagles
Seeking to get back in the win column after a back-and-forth battle the night before, the Eagles were in for another fight against their division foes.
With Gulls forward Maxime Comtois tallying the lone goal of the first period to give the home team a 1-0 lead through the second period, the game opened up in the third period as the two teams exchanged goals at a rapid pace.
Colorado continued to be strong on special teams, as Eagles forward Andrew Agozzino tallied a short-handed goal and a power play goal in the third period to help the Eagles keep pace against the Gulls.
Recently acquired veteran Eagles defenseman Justin Falk recorded his first point with the Eagles, assisting on Aggozino’s shorthanded goal.
Late into the third period, Gulls forward Troy Terry notched the game-winning goal at the 12:23 mark of the third period, giving San Diego a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Eagles.
What’s next?
Following a tough two-game weekend series against the Gulls, the Eagles are in for a busy week; they host the Stockton Heat in a rare two-game weekday series that begins Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.
Only a couple of days after their weekday series against the Heat, the Eagles head out for a quick two-game California road swing against the Bakersfield Condors and the San Jose Barracuda.
