If the future of MLS soccer is a combination of national and international players, coupling veteran experience with budding young talent, the Colorado Rapids are leading the charge into that future.
With just about a month until opening day for the Colorado Rapids, their front office is still making moves. Last we heard, they traded Marcelo Sarvas, and signed their newest Designated Player, Shkëlzen Gashi at the beginning of the week. Their newest addition came on Thursday when the club announced they had acquired 25-year-old defender, Mekeil Williams. Williams joins the team from Guatemalan side Antigua GFC. Similar to Gashi, Williams is waiting for his medical, International Transfer Certificate (ITC), and his P1 visa before officially being added to the roster.

“Mekeil is starting to establish himself at international level. He will bring versatility, athleticism and a strong mentality to our backline. We are delighted to welcome him to our club,” Rapids Technical Director and VP of Soccer Operations, Paul Bravo said.
Williams, who was born in Port of Spain of Trinidad and Tobago, appeared in 20 matches for Antigua GFC, scoring one goal in a total of 1,524 minutes.
The Rapids regular season begins on Mar. 6 from San Jose as the Rapids take on the Earthquakes before returning home on Mar. 12, for their home opener against the LA Galaxy.
