For the Colorado Rockies, 2026 has been a season full of pleasant surprises. One of those surprises has come in the form of utilityman Edouard Julien.
A little-hyped offseason acquisition, Julien began Spring Training with an unclear role for the Rockies. But he has played his way into the everyday lineup. More often than not, you can find him leading off thanks to his excellent discipline and contact skills. Additionally, he has settled in at second base where the Rox have experienced a bit of a merry-go-round of late.
As it would just so happen, Julien is also the latest victim of our Colorado Rockies 2026 Player Survey.
1. What’s the most important part of your game day prep? Is it a meal? The workout? Music?
EJ: Oh for me it is getting here early and having a good workout. It kind of sets the tone through your day. Usually hitting in the cage before I take ground balls. And then you get one hour to relax and then the game goes. So I think that when you first get here to get a good workout and to get your body ready for the game. The routine is the same thing every day single day. The workout changes but the routine’s the same.
2. What is your ideal off day on the road? Are you going golfing or you seeing the sights in the city?
EJ: I’m more of a relax guy. I like to take care of my body. There’s different modalities to try to recuperate or just to have a good day where I’m not doing too much to stay off my feet. I like to do these modalities like red light or Ammortal beds, sauna, and stuff like that.
3. What is your favorite play that you’ve ever made?
EJ: Let’s see… my home run in the playoffs.
DC: Yeah, It’s it’s hard to be the home run of the playoffs.
EJ: Yeah. I mean, when you get the whole stadium to cheer and be happy in a big spot? I think it was the biggest moment.
Of Note: On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, Eouard Julien hit a home run off of Jose Urquidy in the bottom of the sixth. This pulled his Minnesota Twins to within a run of the Houston Astros in Game 4 of the ALDS. Unfortunately for the Twins, that would be the final score, ending their season. Julien hit .364/.533/.818 in the series.
4. What’s your favorite play that you’ve ever seen? (Not on TV or radio)
EJ: I mean, Byron Buxton made a lot of those plays when I was in Minnesota. Carlos Correa too, yeah. But, I’d say Carlos. It felt like every time in a big situation he would come up with the big play. I don’t know why, but he would. He just got that ball hog, you know? He wants what he wants to make the play. I think he’s one of the best I’ve seen.
Note: Buxton (2017) and Correa (2021) each have one Gold Glove award on the mantle.
5. Alright, last one. Do you have a favorite baseball quote? From a coach or a teammate or a movie.
EJ: “Ride the wave.” There’s one that I like to use. It’s a lot of ups and downs. You go through so many different things in the season, you just get to stay level the whole time and not change the person you are and that’s baseball. You’re going to have ups and flows and you’re going to be doing well certain days and doing bad some days. I’m just going to stay the same thing.
