Courtland Sutton is turning heads in mini-camp for the Denver Broncos.
While it’s still early in the rookies first year, Sutton out of SMU has made his mark on the team and says he’s getting better with every week as things become more familiar to him.
“It’s definitely got a lot better since the first couple weeks. The first couple weeks were a little rough just because it’s a completely different system than what I ran at SMU,” Sutton said. “There’s a lot more hours that I had to put in to learn, so I can be out here and be comfortable and play fast.”
Now that Sutton has put in the work off the field to learn the playbook, he’s making plays, but continues to be a sponge with another former SMU Mustang on the team playing his position and feeding him knowledge. Emmanuel Sanders.
“It’s a great opportunity to be able to have him (Sanders) in my room,” Sutton said. “We were talking about the expectations, what he expects out of young guys that come into the locker room,” Sutton said of what Sanders told him.
“He’s given me some guidance, some advice on and off the field, which is great to have, having someone who’s been in the league for a really long time, excelling at our position for a very long time. To be able to get that advice is great.”
