With about a month left in the season, the Broncos are starting to feel the heat. After their loss this past weekend to the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver is now sitting in the seventh seed, one spot out of the playoffs.
One would think this would cause some tension within the team, going from the national champions to the possibility of not making the playoffs, but the Broncos are only worried about one thing: the next game.
“It’s always difficult to take a loss,” DeMarcus Ware told Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Afternoon Drive. “You got to think about the positives in the game and how you played, and you battled through the whole game. But also, you think about the mistakes that you made and how you can’t correct them today, and move on for the next game. You can’t harp on this game. It was a hard-fought battle, yes it was, but what do you got next? You got your next game coming up and you got to improve from what you had going from the last game.”
Time is ticking, but the Broncos know who they are; they know what brought them to this position: defense.
If they continue to expect the highest of themselves, they will continue to expect the best.
“I think every game you got to expect [spectacular from the defense] because that’s what we put on ourselves,” Ware said. “And we got to play with that mentality every week. That’s how we win games, that’s our formula here, having a great defense and having a great strategy on offense. So we have to look at it that way and play that way every week with consistency.”
The Broncos head down south to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars this Sunday. Though away, this game should help bring some confidence back as the Jaguars are currently ranked second to last in the AFC, with a record of 2-9.
