The Denver Broncos wrap up an important mini-camp as the offense begins to come together under offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and quarterback Case Keenum.
Long-time Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas Thursday talked about about having no competition at the quarterback position and how having Keenum as the sole leader of the offense has been a refreshing feeling for the offense in 2018.
In an interview with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Thomas says the new offense is actually quite a bit different from years past.
“It’s a little different. Actually, it’s a lot different. A lot of different words. Certain concepts may be the same, but for the most part, it’s a big difference,” Thomas said.
Thomas also spoke on the dynamic of having one quarterback now running the show. In the past two years, the Broncos have held competitions at the quarterback position, which can hamper development of the offense and Thomas says, now that they’ve got their guy they can count on, it’s full speed ahead.
“That’s what makes offenses great. You’ve got one guy you’ve got to count on. He’s the leader for our team,” Thomas said about Case Keenum being the head man of the offense at quarterback.
“The offensive line doesn’t have to worry about difference cadences, receivers don’t. Running backs don’t have to worry about different hand-offs. It’s a big step for us on the offensive side of the ball.”
Thomas added that the offense wants to play their part this year in being a balanced team overall from offense, to defense, to special teams.
“We want to be an offense, special teams, defensive squad. That’s a good start for us and we’re just going to build on that.”
