With the Denver Broncos set to open up their three-game preseason stretch on Sunday with a road game against the Indianapolis Colts, Jarrett Stidham will get the start at the quarterback position.

Denver Broncos announce (QB name) as starter vs. Indianapolis Colts

The preseason is officially here. After the Denver Broncos released their unofficial depth chart earlier in the week, head coach Sean Payton announced on Friday that Stidham will get the start in Sunday’s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

This announcement isn’t the official result of the team’s ongoing quarterback competition, and the preseason will serve as a platform for continuous evaluation.

Payton said during his Friday press conference that reps will be split amongst phases. Stidham will get phase one of the reps, which will range anywhere between 15-20 plays, Bo Nix will get the phase two reps, and Zach Wilson will get the phase three reps against the Colts.

Payton acknowledged that while Stidham gets the start this week against the Colts, Nix will get the start next week against the Green Bay Packers. Even in Sunday’s game against the Colts, Payton said Nix could possibly get some of the backend reps during phase one.

Regardless of the reps or who starts, Payton wants to come out of Sunday’s game with a win. With so many different position battles taking place, the coaching staff wants to see live game reps for their overall evaluation but winning is important to him in the preseason as well.

The game kicks off at 11:00 a.m. locally on KTVD-Channel 20 with Steve Levy on the play-by-play, former Broncos Super Bowl 50 champion Ryan Harris on color commentary, and Cynthia Frelund and Scotty Gange on the sidelines. Audio broadcasts will occur on KOA 850 AM and 94.1 FM with Dave Logan, Rick Lewis, and Susie Wargin on the call for the preseason and regular season.
