The Denver Broncos are getting key guys back at just the right time for their second-half stretch run of the season. As the team took the field for Wednesday’s practice, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and linebacker Alex Singleton were two names who were back on the field.
Surtain has missed a handful of weeks after suffering a pectoral injury in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys, while Singleton has recovered from surgery that removed a testicular tumor, and he’s now cancer-free.
Both were spotted at practice during the media viewing portion, participating in position drills and team stretch. The media did not watch team drills, so we’ll have to wait for the injury report to be released here in a bit, which will determine whether or not they were limited or full participants.
The Broncos will play on primetime this week against the Washington Commanders, and Singleton has already declared that he’ll be ready to go. Surtain being back at practice is a good sign, but we’ll await the release of today’s practice report that will reveal his official practice status.
If Surtain was a full participant today, that would likely bode well for projecting his potential status for a return on Sunday Night Football, where the Broncos defense will have to account for Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin as the top two receiving threats for Marcus Mariota, with Jayden Daniels set to miss Sunday’s game.
Going into the bye week, the Broncos also didn’t have outside linebacker Jonah Elliss against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he was back on the field on Wednesday.
The only player who has been on the injury report and sideline for the last handful of weeks that we didn’t see was tight end Nate Adkins.
Stay tuned in an hour or two for the official injury report once it’s released.
