Denver Broncos star cornerback Patrick Surtain II exited Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and is currently being evaluated for a concussion in accordance to the NFL’s Concussion Protocol policy.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II exits game in first quarter vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The Denver Broncos defense had to operate on their first offensive drive against the Los Angeles Chargers without star cornerback Patrick Surtain II. On the Chargers’ first passing play, Surtain II made a play on the ball on a pass intended for a receiver and hit his head on the turf.

He was down for several moments before jogging off the field, eventually heading into the blue medical tent and immediately went into the locker room afterward. Broncos PR announced that Surtain was being evaluated for a concussion.

Cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian filled in at cornerback in the team’s base package, and Levi Wallace is currently filling in whenever the team is in their nickel package.

UPDATE

Surtain has a concussion and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game against the Chargers. This is a big blow to Denver defensively, as the team trails 10-0 in the first quarter.

Because Denver plays on Thursday, Surtain will more than likely be out of Thursday Night Football’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints because of the NFL’s Concussion Protocol. Denver will be without him on Sunday and Thursday as he’ll have to clear the protocol.
