Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has received some interest around the NFL for several head coaching vacancies. Will he return as the Broncos defensive coordinator or land himself a head coaching gig?

Denver Broncos DC Vance Joseph set to interview for Raiders’ HC job

Last week, the New York Jets submitted a request to interview Vance Joseph for their vacancy at head coach. That’s not the only job he received interest from, as Denver’s AFC West rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, submitted a request to interview him for their current vacancy, as first reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Joseph’s defense in Denver was a top-five unit this season in a handful of categories.

Cornerback Patrick Surtain II, outside linebacker Nik Bonitto, and defensive end Zach Allen all received AP All-Pro honors last week. Surtain is the odds-on-betting favorite to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, which would be another prestigious accolade to add to his resume.

Denver’s defense took a drastic step forward in 2024 with Joseph despite the team’s struggles on that side of the ball for the last month and a half. Broncos defensive tackle D.J. Jones highlighted what Joseph has meant to the team.

“He’s ‘VJ,'” Jones said. “You have to be around ‘VJ’ to understand who he is. He’s a leader, obviously. He’s resilient, a great teacher and is patient. Whoever would [hire] him would be getting a special guy.”

With a handful of openings around the NFL, Joseph will be one of the many candidates in consideration for several head coaching jobs. If he doesn’t land a gig, the expectation is that he would return as the team’s DC in 2025.
