The Denver Broncos extend Courtland Sutton’s contract, giving him a 4-year, $92 million deal per Ian Rapoport on Bluesky.
Sutton has continually developed and become a No. 1 receiver, and now he’s making that sweet, top-tier cash.
Denver heavily relied upon his services last year, and they will again in 2025 as he leads the receiver room.
Denver Broncos extend Courtland Sutton with 4-year, $92 million deal
Sutton’s new contract makes him the 18th-highest paid receiver in the NFL, tied with Calvin Ridley, both in total value and average per year.
That average as we know it currently is $23 million per year. For the Broncos, that’s only a slight jump from what he’s making this season, at $20.2M.
It also locks up their best receiver for the next five years. Sutton’s current contract, a 2-year extension he signed in 2024, was set to expire in March, 2026.
After practice on Monday, Payton said the team and Sutton were “real close” to getting the deal done. Less than an hour later, it was done.
In terms of a loyal player, Sutton certainly has that characteristic. He’s been through the gauntlet with the Broncos since being drafted by them in the second round in 2018.
Sutton’s played with Case Keenum, Joe Flacco, Drew Lock, Teddy Bridgewater, Russell Wilson, and now Bo Nix at quarterback. Those were four journeymen QBs and a never was in Lock.
Finally, he’s got a great gunslinger in Nix.
And partially thanks to Nix, along with the lack of receivers last year, Sutton went over the 1,000-yard mark for only the second time in his career. He finished 2024 with a career-high 81 receptions for 1,081 yards and 8 touchdowns. Only his 10 touchdowns the previous season were more for a single year.
Also of note, his 57 first downs were tied for 8th-most in the NFL last year. Sutton continually proved to be the Broncos most reliable receiving option and bailed the offense out many times last year.
Now, after limiting reps at training camp as he worked on his new deal, the 7-year pro will be able to focus on leading the receiver room.
Sutton is unquestionably the No. 1 receiver on the Broncos this year. And it’s not even close.
In fact, the No. 2 “receiver” will likely be Evan Engram, the newly signed tight end. Then, it’s a battle between Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele, among others.
Currently, Sutton is 11th all-time among Broncos receivers in yards (5,340) and could move into the top-5 with another 1,000-yard season this year. His 32 touchdowns are also 11th-best in franchise history, and a 9-TD season would move him into a tie for 7th.
