A lot of members of Broncos Country are trying to establish a nickname for the Denver Broncos top cornerback tandem, Patrick Surtain II and Riley Moss. When it comes to their play on the outside against some of the NFL’s best receivers, there’s an argument to be made that their production is at a high level right now compared to other teams. In our latest Denver Broncos Film Room, we look at their biggest plays from Sunday’s win against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Is Denver Broncos CB duo one of the NFL’s best in 2024

It’s a fair question to ask, considering we’ve seen both Patrick Surtain II and Riley Moss continue to make plays, highlight sticky coverage against wide receivers, and, of course, snag interceptions in this past Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Surtain’s two interception performance, including his 100-yard pick six was enough for the NFL to give him their AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor for Week 5.

If you look at NFL Next Gen Stats for both of them in Sunday’s game against the Raiders, their numbers are impressive.

Surtain was on the field for 100% of the team’s defensive snaps on 65 plays. He had three tackles while being targeted four times in the passing game, giving up two catches for 24 yards and snagging two interceptions. Quarterbacks passer rating when targeting him on Sunday was 29.2.

Opposite of him is Moss. In Sunday’s game, Moss was targeted seven times and allowed three catches for 34 yards, an interception, and a QB passer rating of 18.5. Both players are playing at an elite level and have maintained that through five weeks of the season.

Not to mention, nickel cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian has had a quietly strong start to the season himself. Denver’s secondary has been impressive, and their improved front seven has been a big catalyst for their success, but personnel-wise, they have the players at cornerback who can play inside and outside, man and zone, and can travel to any side of the field, which is a rarity to see between three starters.
