The Denver Broncos have an open roster spot after the team waived veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis on Thursday. What potential roster moves could the team make to fill it?

Denver Broncos have open roster spot after waiving Marcedes Lewis

Veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis was waived by the Denver Broncos on Thursday to make space for a spot on the 53-man roster. He was spotted during Thursday’s practice when the media viewing portion took place, and he’ll likely sign to the Broncos practice squad on Friday.

Lewis is out of practice squad elevations, so if he were to sign back, he’d have a big leadership presence without the possibility of playing unless he’s signed to the 53-man roster again.

In the meantime, there is a roster spot available for Denver to bring somebody up either from the practice squad or off of injured reserve.

Veteran left guard Ben Powers returned to practice this week, and his 21-day window was opened on Wednesday. He was back at practice on Thursday and was a limited participant for the second consecutive day.

Friday’s practice will be telling, and there’s a chance a roster move takes place tomorrow or Saturday to fill that spot, and Powers could be the roster move that takes place, coming off of IR and back onto the active roster.

With wide receiver Pat Bryant having missed two days of practice, Denver could elevate a practice squad wide receiver if necessary, but they have flexibility with A.T. Perry and Elijah Moore, who have three practice squad elevations at the team’s disposal.

It doesn’t make sense for them to add practice squad running back Sincere McCormick to the active roster either, considering the flexibility the team could have by elevating him to the gameday roster three times.
