The Denver Broncos historic 4th quarter comeback win was one for the ages.
John Elway, known for his late-game heroics, once orchestrated a 19-point comeback just like Bo Nix and the 2025 Broncos just did.
But the numbers surrounding Sunday’s 33-32 win over the Giants are incredible.
Denver Broncos historic 4th quarter comeback win by the numbers
It wasn’t just that the Broncos won on Sunday, coming back from 19 points down, it was also all the wild numbers that came along with that victory.
Speaking of numbers: Demaryius Thomas—who was enshrined in the Ring of Fame on Sunday—was sadly only 33 years old when he died. The Broncos scored 33 points in the fourth quarter. And the last time they had the ball, they got it with 33 seconds left on the clock. Call it the Legend of 33.
Let’s get into all the other impossible numbers of the Denver Broncos historic 4th quarter comeback win.
New NFL Record
Per ESPN: The Broncos’ 33 fourth-quarter points were the most in NFL history by any team that was shut out for the first three quarters.
Denver’s offense was terrible for most of the game, only to catch fire in the fourth quarter. Going back to the Week 6 win over the Jets, Denver had 17 straight drives without a touchdown. 12 were punts, two were ends of halves, one safety, one ended on downs, and one field goal.
In the fourth quarter, they scored four straight touchdowns. It’s the first time in the Sean Payton Era the team scored touchdowns on four straight drives. They reached the end zone on three straight drives in four games before Sunday.
NFL teams almost never lose when up 18 late
Again, from ESPN: The Broncos’ comeback snapped a streak in which NFL teams had won 1,602 consecutive games when leading by 18 points in the final 6 minutes of a game.
Even more, when the Broncos trailed 26-8 with 6:38 remaining in the game and were facing fourth-and-3, their win probability was less than 1%, according to Next Gen Stats.
Here’s the incredible chart to check out yourself:
Broncos scoring output in the 4th
Denver’s 33 points in the fourth quarter were the second-most points ever in a 4th quarter behind 34 by the Detroit Lions in 2007.
Bo Nix’s Mile High Magic
Quarterback Bo Nix became the first player ever to run for two scores and throw for two touchdowns in a fourth quarter.
Nix’s Herculean effort in the fourth is even that much more impressive when considering how bad a game he and the offense had through three quarters.
Through the first three quarters, Nix went 11-24 (45.8%) for 89 yards. He finished with a stat line of: 27-50, 279 yards, 2 TD and 2 rushing TD.
One of the biggest comebacks in Broncos history
The 19-point comeback was the third-biggest of franchise history. There were three 24-point comebacks and three 21-point comebacks, as well as one other 19-point comeback in Broncos history. That other 19-point comeback was orchestrated by John Elway.
