The Denver Broncos are always looking at ways they can boost their roster and personnel, even in the middle of the regular season. At inside linebacker specifically, the team hosted former Pro Bowl linebacker Kwon Alexander on a workout Tuesday, as he looks to make his return here in 2024 — now he’ll sign with the Broncos practice squad.

Inside linebacker seems to be a position of interest still for the Denver Broncos after they hosted veteran Kwon Alexander for a workout on Tuesday, according to the league’s wire. On Wednesday morning, he signed to the team’s practice squad. Alexander is a 10th year vet who has played impactful snaps for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2015-2018), San Francisco 49ers (2019-2020), New Orleans Saints (2020-2021), New York Jets (2022), and more recently the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023.

He’s played in 104 career games while starting 88 of them. As a member of the Steelers last season, he started two out of the nine games he appeared in before suffering a torn Achilles. Alexander has 631 career tackles, 13.5 sacks, 31 quarterback hits, 12 forced fumbles, and nine career interceptions.

The Broncos current linebacker depth features Alex Singleton, Cody Barton, Kristian Welch, and Justin Strnad on the 53-man roster. For the last handful of weeks, both Barton and Welch have rotated in quite a bit at linebacker, but it’s unsure if that’s by design or if they’re still trying to find an established starter next to Singleton.

Alexander’s veteran experience should be beneficial for Denver, but he hasn’t played since last season due to the Achilles injury. Over the course of the last two weeks, he’s had visits and workouts with the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings, and on Tuesday he had his workout with the Broncos before signing Wednesday.

It’s worth noting that Alexander played for Sean Payton in 2020 and 2021 when he was a member of the New Orleans Saints. The Denver Broncos are in West Virginia all week for practice as they prepare for Sunday’s road game against the New York Jets at 11:00 a.m. MT.
