The Denver Broncos are set to kick off the mandatory portion of the team’s offseason program this week and there are a a variety of storylines that will help set the table for the push to training camp.
Denver Broncos begin mandatory minicamp this week
After wrapping up three straight weeks of organized team activities, the Denver Broncos are set to begin mandatory minicamp this week.
The media will be present for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday’s practices, which will include the return of Courtland Sutton, and Denver’s ongoing quarterback competition.
Courtland Sutton set to return to Denver Broncos practice on Tuesday
After deciding to opt out of participating in the Broncos’ voluntary offseason program, Courtland Sutton is set to return to practice on Tuesday when the team hits the field.
Despite missing the voluntary portion of the offseason program, Sutton had been previously training in Florida, putting on daily workouts that featured strength and conditioning and on-field work.
“I will be there, I will be there,” Sutton said during his interview with DNVR. “It’s been killing me not to be there at OTAs. This has been a very different offseason than I’ve been part of since I’ve been in the league.”
Now he’ll have the chance to get work with Jarrett Stidham, Bo Nix, and Zach Wilson who will continue to receive rotating reps with the various offensive units.
Broncos QB competition continues
The ongoing QB battle between Stidham, Nix, and Wilson continues on Tuesday. During OTAs, Sean Payton rotated QBs with the first team unit on each day of practice.
For the first two weeks of practice, the Broncos held media availability on Thursdays, where we all saw Nix running with the first team unit.
Last Tuesday, the Broncos switched media availability to Tuesday, when Wilson received the first-team reps.
While Nix and Stidham have been consistent and impressive, Wilson has had the toughest run so far. We’ll see what the rotation looks like to start Tuesday’s practice this week.
Will Greg Dulcich return this week?
After having offseason foot surgery, the Broncos are hopeful that tight end Greg Dulcich will make his highly anticipated return to practice during the mandatory portion of the offseason program.
Earlier in OTAs, Payton said that Dulcich is expected to return before training camp. With three weeks of OTAs in the books, all eyes shift to this week’s final week of practice before the team returns for training camp at the end of July.
When he returns, he’ll face stiff competition from Lucas Krull, who has emerged as an exciting name to watch for Broncos Country and veteran Adam Trautman, two players who have received a large bulk of valuable reps so far.
