For the second time this season, Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz has taken home the NFL’s AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor after his performance in Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Denver Broncos are 7-5 and are one win away from tying last year’s win total with five games remaining. Part of the reason the Broncos were able to hold off the Las Vegas Raiders in Sunday’s win is because of the leg of Wil Lutz.
Lutz was named the NFL’s AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his Week 12 performance. He was 5-of-5 on field goals on Sunday and made both extra-point attempts to contribute to 17 of Denver’s 29 points they put up. He was 3-for-3 in the first half, which allowed Denver to go into halftime trailing 13-9.
Lutz was 2-for-2 from 30-39 yards, 1-for-1 from 40-49 yards, and 2-for-2 from 50-59 yards on Sunday. This is the second time this season he’s taken home the award, with his first one dating back to his Week 3 performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He is the fourth Broncos kicker to earn the award, joining former kickers Brandon McManus, Matt Prater, and Jason Elam. This honor signals the fifth time a Broncos player has won a Player of the Week award, with Lutz winning twice, Cody Barton winning once, Patrick Surtain II getting one, and Bo Nix recently receiving one last week.
Denver’s special teams play has been a big component of their success this season, and Lutz is 24-of-27 on the year and has made all 26 of his extra-point attempts.
He’s contributed 98 total points for the Broncos this season, which ranks him fourth amongst kickers, and his 24 made field goals has him tied for fifth-most in the NFL this season.
