In our Mile High Sports second installment of our Denver Broncos Mailbag, various members of Broncos Country want to know what the heck is going on with the Broncos offense, what’s up with the bloody uniform combination for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and more.
Denver Broncos Mailbag before Jaguars in London
“Hey Cody, I know Coach Hackett was asked this earlier in the week, but would you think it’d be beneficial for him to bring in someone to help with play calling and being a HC in general? Maybe someone local like Mike Shanahan? Also, wasn’t this offense supposed to have pre-snap motion?” – @orange_Crush512
This is a great question. I don’t know if it would benefit the Broncos or him to bring somebody in from the outside. The likelihood of it paying off is unrealistic at this point this deep into the season. He does have Jerry Rosburg up in the box which provides him with analytics and tendencies that help aid in the decision-making process, but Rosburg doesn’t have the final say. With that said, my personal belief is that Hackett should hand over playcalling responsibilities to Klint Kubiak who works with Russell Wilson every day. In regard to pre-snap motion, there is some, but not as much of it as we were accustomed to seeing in training camp.
“If we trade Jeudy, and we end up needing a new coach. What skill pieces on offense do we have to even pitch them that are young or aren’t coming off major injury?” – @MileHighMarc_
This is a strong point. Denver’s biggest appeals on offense if Jerry Jeudy and/or KJ Hamler get traded would be Greg Dulcich and Courtland Sutton. I know Denver likes undrafted rookie free agent Jalen Virgil’s traits, but their focus right now is on developing him and bringing him further along. You mentioned the injury side of things, it will help to have Tim Patrick and Javonte Williams return eventually, but fans should temper expectations on them as they will work to navigate getting used to being back on the field. The mental side of ACL recovery is grueling during the recovery process, but even more during return to play. More importantly, if the Broncos do make a change in coaching, the next coach will need to develop a true system that works with what Russell Wilson does best.
“What would you do if you were George Paton in this situation.” – @madsportzfan
It has to be a tough position to be in. The optics and early returns on the trade for Russell Wilson and the hiring of Nathaniel Hackett aren’t looking good, he still made the right decision at the time. Nobody imagined the offense would look the way it has, but he made a long-term investment in Wilson and will have to see it through. I personally believe that Wilson can turn things around, but I’m not so sure it will happen in this hybrid offense that clearly hasn’t played to his strengths.
“What the heck is up with the Broncos uniform combo this Sunday against the Jaguars?” – Multiple replies
According to Broncos Team President Damani Leech, Denver’s team captains suggested it. Which team captains pushed for it remains unknown, but they certainly do not seem appealing for a game. Maybe it’s a distraction to take eyes off of the Broncos offense which is struggling at a historic level through seven weeks. For those who don’t know what the uniforms look like for Sunday, check below. If you’ve played Madden and utilize the practice feature in Franchise Mode, you already know.
