Denver Broncos wide receiver and return specialist Marvin Mims is taking home the prestigious honor of AFC Special Teams Player of the Week following his game-changing return in the Broncos win against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15.

In a game where the Denver Broncos offense was struggling and needed a spark, Marvin Mims came up with a tide-changing play on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts when he nearly housed a punt return in the fourth quarter.

Mims broke off a 61-yard return set up by great blocks from JL Skinner, Drew Sanders, and the rest of the special teams unit.

Mims is the fifth Broncos player this year to take home honors for Player of the Week. Wil Lutz, Patrick Surtain II, Bo Nix, and Cody Barton are the other players who have brought home the recognition.

Mims had three total punt returns on Sunday for 97 yards, averaging 32.3 yards per return. Going into Week 16, Mims leads the NFL with the most punt return yards this season, with 408 yards on 26 returns.

After not having an established role for the first year and a half of his career, Mims has emerged as a game changer for the Broncos on offense and special teams, where Sean Payton is deploying him as a running back option out of the backfield, and in the slot and outside at wide receiver.

Perhaps he’s emerging into becoming that ‘Joker’ that Payton has been desperately looking for since taking the Broncos’ gig in 2023. Now, the Broncos are in a position to make the post-season for the first time since the Super Bowl 50, and Mims’ role can become even more pivotal for the offense to have success in these final three games.

Keep an eye on Mims against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football.
