There is change looming through the air of Dove Valley as Davis Webb will be calling plays as the offensive coordinator this season as Bo Nix enters his third season in the league.
Denver Broncos OC Davis Webb will call plays in 2026
One of the largely speculated moves of the offseason has been whether or not Davis Webb will call plays for the offense this season after he was promoted to offensive coordinator.
That answer is now clear — he will, in fact, be calling the plays this season, and head coach Sean Payton is fully on board with supporting him in the process.

Payton noted that he feels good about Webb being able to handle that responsibility.
“He’s extremely talented,” Payton said. “With regards to playcalling, it’s something I think he’ll be really good at it. I know that’s like, ‘Man, are you going to give up playcalling?’ I would only do that if I felt like it would help our team. I’ll still be involved with what we do offensively just like what we do defensively. I do think he has a gift, I think he’s real sharp, i’m glad he’s on our staff. Typically, any decision we make like that is to benefit our team. I’m looking forward to it. I challenged him in the offseason prior to that preseason game. He did a good job, but I think it will help us, and certainly I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think it was going to help our team win.”
This is a massive change. Payton will still have a say in the offense, and they will still run their typical offense, but Webb’s going to be responsible for it this season. From time to time, Payton also made mention that he would call some plays, but it’s unclear when or what that would actually look like.
Sean also indicated the notion of being quicker from a playcalling standpoint as another reason this move took place, and that he has trust in Webb and his abilities as a coach.
This move also allows Payton to have more of his hands on every aspect of the Broncos’ operation, including in-game management aspects.
When asked whether or not Bo Nix factored into this decision, Payton said he did not.
This is a big offseason wave, and it will be interesting to see what other ripple effects come from this change.
