The Denver Broncos are placing running back J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve, which means he’ll miss the next four games minimum.
Dobbins suffered a foot injury last week on Thursday Night Football after he was hip-drop tackled by Las Vegas Raiders defensive player Tyree Wilson in Denver’s 10-7 win. After the game, Dobbins talked with us and said he felt fine, but the day after the game presented a different feeling.
Dobbins has sought a second opinion and has been evaluating his options, and will be getting surgery on what’s being described as a lisfranc injury, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Once he has surgery, a more definitive timeline will be available, but it could ultimately cost him the remainder of the season.
He missed practice all of this week and will at a minimum miss Denver’s next four games against the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders, Las Vegas Raiders, and Green Bay Packers.
He’s been such a pivotal part of the Broncos’ offense this season and was the league’s fifth-leading rusher after Week 10, and has had more rushing yards this season than the Broncos’ leading rusher had for the last two years. Dobbins snapped the Broncos’ long-standing 36+ game streak of not having a 100-yard rusher, and has surpassed 100 yards twice this season, while averaging five yards per carry in what has been one of his best NFL seasons yet.
During their upcoming stretch of games without him, the Broncos will lean heavily on rookie running back RJ Harvey, veteran Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie as components of the run game.
