The Denver Broncos will not be reuniting head coach Sean Payton and hot-name linebacker Zack Baun this offseason. Instead, they may end up making a big splash at another position.
Denver Broncos NFL Free Agency target Zack Baun re-signs with the Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun will not be coming to the Mile High City when NFL Free Agency hits next week on March 12th. After the Eagles moved on from veteran cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry, they made it a priority to retain Baun as a key member of their defense under former Broncos head coach Vic Fangio.

Baun saw a career year in 2024 that was ultimately capped off with a Super Bowl win, with Philadelphia manhandling Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. While Broncos fans may have been hopeful of Baun doing the same in an orange and blue uniform, that will not be happening.
Baun and the Eagles agreed to a three-year, $51M contract that will keep him in Kelly Green for the foreseeable future.
If Baun was on the Broncos’ wishlist for free agency, they’ll now have to pivot as they look at adding to the inside linebacker position in hopes of upgrading the unit from 2024. Alex Singleton, Drew Sanders, and Levelle Bailey are the only players on the roster under contract at off-ball linebacker and there will likely be two or three more additions as the team looks to build out their 90-man roster for training camp.
While inside linebacker was a position that could have featured a ‘big splash’ move by Denver, it’s possible that type of move could come in the form of a wide receiver? In Mike Klis’ latest Mike Drop, he mentioned that there’s a belief the Broncos could be in on signing a WR2 on top of them potentially extending Courtland Sutton before or after the NFL Draft.
Wide receiver is another position of need for Denver and soon-to-be second-year quarterback Bo Nix while the team invests in the development of Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele.
