The Denver Broncos wrapped up Tuesday’s fully padded practice as they continue to get themselves ready for the start of the regular season.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix continues to thrive and embrace underdog role
As Bo Nix goes into his third NFL season, his teammates have nothing but glowing reviews about the type of competitor he is and how his composure is unmatched.
We’ve seen it in games; we’ve seen it amidst different stretches of highs and even when facing adversity. When things are chaotic, Nix doesn’t blink. If you need a recent example, go back to January’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills after Josh Allen regained the lead in the fourth quarter, leaving Nix and the offense with 1:55 to go in the fourth quarter.
Practice Report – September 1:

Nix marched Denver’s offense downfield and executed a clutch, touchdown-scoring drive where he connected with Marvin Mims to give Denver the lead in the final minute. That also led to Nix helping lead the offense into scoring range in overtime, where Wil Lutz booted the game-winning field goal.
He thrives in the chaos. Nix doesn’t mind being the underdog, although I don’t think he’ll come out and publicly say that. Even if national pundits, who have the most to say but don’t actually watch Nix play, spout off nonsense. It’s no sweat off Nix’s back — although Sean Payton might say something to the occasional detractor.
The way he carries himself, his composure on the field, or at the podium tells us a lot about him, but following Tuesday’s practice, his teammates had more to say.
Patrick Surtain II highlighted where he’s seen Nix grow the most coming into year three.
“I just think his cerebral approach to the game is off the charts,” Surtain said. “I always says he’s so poised, but he’s always had that calm demeanor. Going into his third year, bringing all the guys together offensively and just being a tremendous leader on the team. He’s got that dog attitude and that’s what you want in a quarterback.”
Garett Bolles, the man responsible for protecting Nix’s blindside, echoed those sentiments.
“Calm, composed like he always is,” Bolles said. “He’s never changed from the minute he stepped into the building to the day that is right now. Just the way he attacks everything, his rehab, his composure, his mental, all the above — the dude is ready to rock and roll. You never know if something is struggling with that dude. He’s just ready to play ball.”
Marvin Mims, several other veterans not spotted at Tuesday’s practice
We did not spot wide receiver Marvin Mims at practice for the second consecutive day after he suffered a foot bruise last Friday in his first NFL preseason action after a defensive back stepped on his foot with cleats while both players were going to the ground.
We’ll see if he returns at some point this week, or more importantly, next week as the team dives deeper into their Chiefs’ prep.
Linebacker Alex Singleton and tight end Adam Trautman were not spotted at practice either. We’ll see if they are back out there for Wednesday’s practice.
Outside linebacker Que Robinson was on the team’s side field for the second consecutive day, but was doing field work, conditioning, and rehab in full pads, which is a great sign.
