The Denver Broncos value their quarterback room and head coach Sean Payton has always emphasized how important it is to have a quality backup behind the starter, but could trade interest surrounding Bo Nix’s backup lead to Denver making a move?

Denver Broncos QB Jarrett Stidham receiving trade interest

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Denver Broncos backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham is receiving trade interest from around the league ahead of NFL Free Agency.

Stidham, who is entering the final year of his initial two-year deal with Denver, could be the perfect bridge option for an NFL team out there that could have interest in also drafting a rookie quarterback.

The New York Jets are a team that comes to mind as a potential place of interest, considering the former Broncos’ ties to Darren Mougey, who is now the general manager of the Jets.

Stidham hadn’t played a meaningful regular-season snap in two years leading up to the Broncos’ matchup against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game, where Denver ultimately fell short of a Super Bowl appearance.

For teams in need of a veteran quarterback, Stidham would be a solid option, even potentially in Arizona with the Cardinals.

It all boils down to what Sean Payton thinks and feels, though. Payton has been on record emphasizing the importance of having a high-quality backup on the roster in the event of an injury to the starter, and he likes Stidham. On top of that, offensive coordinator Davis Webb, who was the quarterbacks coach last season, feels the same way.

If they believe they can acquire decent capital in return for Stidham, they might pull the trigger, but Payton and Paton have always operated with the mentality of ‘If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.’

I’d expect that to remain the case, but we’ll see with NFL Free Agency kicking off next week.
