Denver Broncos veterans reported to the team facility on Tuesday for the start of training camp. The team will hold practice on Wednesday and Thursday before opening things up to the public on Friday at the Centura Health Training Center.
On Tuesday, the team made several roster moves to solidify their personnel heading into the official start of training camp practices.
The Broncos released quarterback Jarrett Guarantano from the roster while the signing of kicker Brett Maher became official, and the team signed wide receiver Nick Williams to the roster.
Guarantano spent 2022 as a member of the team’s practice squad before he was activated to the 53-man roster toward the end of last year. He was on the Broncos’ OTA and minicamp roster alongside Russell Wilson, Jarrett Stidham, and Ben DiNucci. He did not appear in any regular season games.
That leaves just three quarterbacks for the Broncos in that position room for training camp.
Eyioma Uwazurike landed on the exempt list after the league handed down an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on gambling.
Maher’s signing became official per the NFL’s transaction wire as a corresponding move.
He will compete with Elliott Fry for the team’s vacant kicker job this upcoming season after the Broncos moved on from veteran placekicker Brandon McManus earlier in the offseason.
Guarantano’s release opened another roster spot, leading to the team signing Williams.
Williams was on the Broncos’ roster during OTAs but was released so the team could sign veteran outside linebacker Frank Clark. He is now back on the roster, which makes the Broncos’ total for wide receivers at training camp set at 13 players.
He’ll have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Broncos’ active roster or practice squad throughout training camp and the NFL preseason. Williams is a local product who played his high school football for Dave Logan at Cherry Creek and played college football at CSU-Pueblo before transferring to UNLV for his final season.
Right now, it appears that there are four roster locks at the receiver position featuring Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick, and second-round draft pick Marvin Mims. If the Broncos keep six total players at that position as projected, he’ll look to compete for one of the final two spots.
The Denver Broncos will be on the practice field on Wednesday and Thursday, open to the media, while fans can see the team for the first time during Friday’s practice which is open to the public who have acquired a ticket through TicketMaster.
