After suffering an injury in the Denver Broncos 31-7 playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, rookie outside linebacker Jonah Elliss underwent shoulder surgery this week and now he begins the recovery process.
Denver Broncos rookie Jonah Elliss begins recovery after shoulder surgery
It was easy to see why the Denver Broncos drafted rookie Jonah Elliss in the 2024 NFL Draft. He plays with such a high motor and is consistent off the edge against the run and against the pass. After turning in an impressive rookie season, the Broncos rookie pass rusher will begin recovery after suffering a fractured shoulder against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wildcard Playoffs.
Chris Tomasson first reported the details of Elliss’ injury, and 9News’ Mike Klis reported on Wednesday afternoon that the rookie pass rusher underwent surgery this week to stabilize the fracture in his shoulder. The initial timeline for his recovery is listed as at least six to eight weeks.

Last year, Elliss suffered a torn labrum at Utah. Typically, ligament injuries take longer to heal, and rehab than bones, but Elliss will work with the Broncos training staff and VP of Player Health and Performance Beau Lowery in his recovery process.
He should be good to go for the start of organized team activities in May and team workouts in late April. In his rookie season, Elliss finished the season with 38 tackles, five sacks, seven tackles for a loss, and two passes defended in 17 games played this year.
Elliss earned a pivotal role in the Broncos’ pass rush rotation behind Jonathon Cooper and Nik Bonitto and stepped into a larger role after the team traded away Baron Browning.
He’ll be expected to take on more in 2025.
