The Denver Broncos were back to work on Sunday, just under 24 hours after they dominated the Arizona Cardinals in their second preseason game. Following the aftermath of Saturday’s game, the Broncos made corresponding roster moves.

After not playing a handful of their starters in Saturday’s preseason game against the Cardinals, the Denver Broncos were back on the practice field on Sunday, combining a walkthrough practice with team meetings, recovery, and film review.

Denver also worked out a handful of fullbacks with the latest injuries to Nate Adkins and Michael Burton, ultimately trying out Adam Prentice and signing him to the roster. In order to make room for Prentice to land on the roster, the Broncos placed second-year offensive guard Nick Gargiulo on injured reserve, ending his season after he suffered a serious injury on Saturday.

Gargiulo was having an impressive camp at guard and had stood out in Denver’s first two preseason games before he was rolled up on during a run play in the third quarter of Saturday’s game. He left the game on a cart, and his leg was in an air cast. We’ll hopefully hear from Sean Payton this week on his thoughts on Gargiulo and an official prognosis, if he gives it.

Prentice rejoins the Broncos after playing for the team in 2021 as an undrafted rookie free agent during the preseason. After he was waived, the New Orleans Saints picked him up, where he played for Payton that season. His most complete season came in 2024, where he appeared in all 17 games for the Saints and started seven games for them.

Not only did he play 25% of the Saints’ offensive snaps last season, but he was also a key special teams player for New Orleans, playing 48% of their special teams snaps and racking up a career-high seven tackles.

Adkins recently had a tightrope ankle procedure, which Payton said will carry his absence into the start of the regular season. Right now, it looks more and more likely that Adkins will land on short-term IR once the team makes its roster cuts from 91 to 53 players, especially with the amount of strong depth on both sides of the ball right now.

All we know with Burton is that he pulled up last week with a hamstring injury, but no official timeline has been indicated for him regarding his status.

Undrafted rookie tight end Caden Prieskorn played the hybrid fullback/tight end role offensively during Saturday’s game and is another name to keep an eye on with roster cuts looming.
