The Denver Broncos have made their decision surrounding wide receiver Josh Reynolds as the clock timed out with his 21-day window. In a shocking turn of events, the Broncos decided to waive Reynolds and focus on the youth of the position.

The Denver Broncos were up against the clock on their pending decision to either activate wide receiver Josh Reynolds or shut him down for the season on IR. On Tuesday, following the Broncos thrilling Monday Night Football victory, the team waived Reynolds per the league’s transaction wire.

This move comes as a bit of a shock and surprise, considering the team added him as a veteran presence opposite of Courtland Sutton. Perhaps the decision was an easy one for Sean Payton and George Paton to make with the recent emergence of Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele. Having a player like Reynolds back in the fold would not have been a bad move, and certainly would have given the Broncos offense even more firepower, but the pecking order of the WR room has become more clear as of late.

Sutton leads the team weekly in snaps and production, while seventh-round rookie Vele has become the WR2 inside of the offense based on the number of snaps played lately, with Lil’Jordan Humphrey and rookie Franklin getting even more reps. Mims’ recent deployment as a bit of a ‘Joker’ for Payton’s offense has created new opportunities inside of the offense, and he balled out on Monday Night, hauling in a 93-yard touchdown catch from Nix.

Denver also has some developmental prospects on their practice squad with A.T. Perry and David Sills V, who they’d like to see continue to step up as the season goes along, especially on the scout team. All eyes are on the future with Bo Nix and the young variety of receiving options Payton is investing in.

If he clears waivers, there is a chance he could come back onto the practice squad, where he could be elevated three times.
