The Denver Broncos will face another tough test this week as they prepare for Sunday’s game against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. With AFC conference implications at stake, Denver will have to bring their best in hopes of extending their win streak against the Chiefs, and getting one step closer to a playoff spot.

Courtland Sutton says Denver Broncos must be on their P’s and Q’s vs. Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t played their best brand of football this season and appear to be more beatable than they have in recent memory, but despite all of that, they find themselves in a position as being undefeated. Courtland Sutton and the Denver Broncos also haven’t played their best brand of football but are in a position to get their sixth win of the season as the race and stakes in the AFC get even bigger.

Right now, the Broncos sit in the 7th spot of the AFC playoff picture and would be in if the playoffs began today. Kansas City is at the top of the conference, with the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Chargers ahead of them.

Sunday’s game could help the Broncos gain more cushion ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts, who are right behind them.

For the last two games, Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has been Bo Nix’s top target, catching 15 passes on 21 targets for 222 yards.

Against the Chiefs last year in two games, Sutton hauled in six catches on nine targets for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will likely work to limit and take away Sutton as Nix’s top option, which means players like Troy Franklin, Devaughn Vele, Lucas Krull, and others will have to step up if he receives extra attention.

“There are a lot of really good players on that defense, really good players that have played a lot of ball together. I think that’s the biggest thing that I would say. They have a lot of really good players that have played a lot of ball together and it allows them to play fast. On defense when you can play fast and they can know there is going to be a guy here and a guy there, everyone knows the zones they’re going to be in, they can communicate. Sometimes, they can work without having to communicate with each other because they just know and have done it so much. That’s something that makes them really good. [Chiefs Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo] has done a really good job of—they gameplan really well. They do a really good job of finding your strengths and weaknesses and trying to exploit them. It’s something that we have to know and be aware of, especially with us having a rookie quarterback. They’re going to try and test him and just see how much film is he watching and how prepared is he going to be? I have no lack of faith of [QB] Bo [Nix] being prepared, this offense being prepared, this defense being prepared and everyone being prepared to go in and take care of business. We have to be on our p’s and q’s to be able to go in there and knock off the defending Super Bowl champs at home.”

The test will be huge, but players inside the locker room are eager to bounce back from their loss against the Ravens and there’s a belief amongst them that they can beat the Chiefs.

Sunday’s game kicks off at 11:00 a.m. MT on CBS.
