The Denver Outlaws signed Midfielder Brent Adams to a two-year contract in conjunction with the MLL Player Movement Policy, the team announced on Tuesday.
A native of Norwalk, Conn., Adams amassed 78 career points (57 goals and 18 assists) and 98 ground balls in his first five seasons with the Chesapeake Bayhawks (2012) and Boston Cannons (2013-16).
“When you have the opportunity to sign a player who has been a major ‘thorn’ in your team’s side over the past four years, you jump at the chance to put him on your side,” Outlaws General Manager Tony Seaman said. “Brent has been a terrific player in the MLL over the past several seasons. Bringing him onboard as an Outlaw is something that we have talked about and put on our wish list, and to have it actually become a reality is a dream come true. He is one of the few midfielders in this league who is truly a two-way middie.”
Adams suited up in 14 games for the Cannons in 2016, recording 30 points (20 goals and 9 assists) and 37 ground balls. The 26-year-old posted three hat tricks during the year in addition to two game-winning goals.
Drafted 53rd overall in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Bayhawks, Adams spent the next four seasons with the Boston Cannons following a trade after his rookie year.
Adams played his collegiately at Fairfield University, where he started 40-of-53 games. Throughout his college career, Adams recorded 100 points (68 goals, 32 assists), collected 92 ground balls and forced 27 turnovers.
Signed through the MLL Player Movement Policy, the Boston Cannons will receive the Outlaws’ 2017 third-round college draft pick (27th overall). Beginning with the 2016 season, the MLL Player Movement Policy allows players to relocate to a different market and team if they have been in the league for a minimum of five consecutive seasons and have an expiring contract.
