The Denver Broncos had to make a decision on tackle Donald Stephenson prior to Monday, when his $4 million salary for 2017 was set to become guaranteed. The team decided to restructure his deal, and keep him around for a little bit longer.

Now, Stephenson will still get that full $4 million if he makes the Broncos; while the team can also cut bait if he doesn’t and open up half of that money.
Stephenson struggled last season, his first in Denver after signing a three-year deal the offseason prior. He played in 13 games (starting 12). At right tackle, he and Ty Sambrailo combined to allow 71 quarterback pressures, 10 sacks and 12 quarterback hits (according to Pro Football Focus). The Broncos also signed Menelik Watson, who played right tackle for the Oakland Raiders, on Friday.
The Broncos figure to switch to a power blocking scheme under new offensive line coach Jeff Davidson. Stephenson could get a look at left tackle as well.
