The second-shortest player in NBA history, Earl Boykins still enjoyed a long career. Retired since 2012, he is now planning on lacing up the sneakers yet again.
In an interview with Ryan Edwards and Danny Williams on Mile High Sports Radio on Thursday, Boykins confirmed that he will be joining a newly-formed basketball league that will be starting up in June.
“Ice Cube and former NBA player Roger Mason are putting together a 3-on-3 league, and I plan on playing in it this summer,” he said.
Boykins will not be the only former Denver Nuggets player to take his talents to the 8-team league either. Joining him will be a “good group of guys” including: Allen Iverson, Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin and Al Harrington.
The league will be made up of former NBA players. It is hard to say how much defense you’ll see in the games. Then again, you don’t see much defense from the Denver Nuggets these days. Boykins also gave his thoughts on how his former team could fix their struggles on that side of the ball.
“What the Nuggets can lean on, in their lack of defense, is throwing the ball on the block,” he said. “If you play inside-out, you’ll actually slow the game down and it will look as if you’re a better defensive team, but you’re really not. There’s just less possessions in the game.”
